In 2007, Governor Ritter signed bill 07-1104, protecting the consumer and giving them several rights when dealing with insurance over a property damage claim. In short, the insured reserves the right to choose their contractor for repairs, and not be coerced by the insurance company or their recommended contractor.

In 2012, Governor Hickenlooper signed bill 12-038 to protect residential consumers by being taken advantage of by roofing contractors.
